The first being fire due to the flammable gases that build up when used batteries are collected in an airtight environment. Yes, but only batteries that you could recharge. AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries that are not rechargeable, do not have to be taped or bagged.

Yes. Used batteries as they breakdown leech out a caustic substance that is harmful to human skin. If it is necessary to handle used batteries after they have been placed in an appropriate BATTERY RECYCLER® collection container, please wear protective gloves and goggles.
